India’s Captain Suryakumar Yadav Looks Ahead After Victory Over Oman
India’s cricket captain, Suryakumar Yadav, celebrated a successful win against Oman in their last group match of the Asia Cup 2025. The match, held at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, ended with India winning by 21 runs, allowing them to advance to the Super 4 stage unbeaten.
The Indian team wrapped up the group phase at the top of Group A, having secured strong victories over the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman. Next, they’ll face their longstanding rivals, Pakistan, once again on Sunday, September 21, in Dubai. When asked about the upcoming clash, Suryakumar emphasized the team’s readiness without naming Pakistan directly.
“We’re all set for the Super Fours,” he remarked during the post-match presentation.
In a lighthearted moment, Suryakumar joked that he might bat at number 11 in the next game to ensure everyone gets a chance to play. He acknowledged Oman’s impressive performance and also praised all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
“Oman played outstanding cricket. I expected this because their coach, Sulu sir, really knows his stuff. It was fun watching them,” he said. He also mentioned the challenge of players coming in from the sidelines, noting the humidity affecting their performance.
The team’s spirits were high after their victory, with Suryakumar seen enjoying camaraderie with Omani players, sharing hugs and taking photos together. This warm interaction followed their previous match against Pakistan, where Suryakumar notably did not shake hands with a Pakistani player, leading to some controversy.
The Pakistan Cricket Board raised concerns about sportsmanship and requested action against the match referee for not addressing this behavior. Despite their complaints, the ICC did not take any action, leading to further tensions between the teams ahead of their next face-off.
The atmosphere is charged as India and Pakistan prepare to meet again, adding to the excitement of their already fierce rivalry.
