Shaheen Afridi Shows Signs of Recovery Ahead of Asia Cup
Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is making a positive comeback after a challenging period. Since the 2022 T20 World Cup, he struggled to regain his form, but recent performances in a tri-series have shown that he may be finding his rhythm again. Former cricketer Wasim Akram expressed his excitement about seeing Shaheen back in action as the team prepares for the upcoming T20 tournament.
Shaheen became a household name during the 2021 T20 World Cup, where he took apart the Indian batting order. Unfortunately, following that stellar performance, he suffered a ligament injury that kept him off the field for several months. He returned during the 2022 World Cup but has struggled to reach his previous heights since then.
After two challenging years for Pakistan cricket, Shaheen has finally begun to shine again, particularly in recent matches against the West Indies. Akram noted, “Shaheen Shah Afridi is definitely back into his rhythm. I saw him recently, and he was sprinting in every ball, bowling at 140 km/h, which is promising. I hope he focuses on his game; he’s still young and needs to channel his emotions better.”
Pakistan is gearing up to face Oman in their opening match of the tournament on September 12, followed by a highly anticipated clash against India two days later. Team captain Salman Agha mentioned that the squad is strengthening in the absence of key players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan. He emphasized that the team is ready to compete fiercely for the trophy.
