OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: The Israeli military reported on Sunday morning that two missiles were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, with one being successfully intercepted.
According to the army, sirens were triggered in Netivot and nearby communities, alerting residents to the incoming projectiles. They confirmed that while one missile was intercepted, the other fell in an open area.
This incident marked the first missile threat to Netivot, a town of around 50,000 located about 10 kilometers from Gaza, in several months.
The missile launches occurred amid Israel’s intensified military operations targeting Gaza City, the largest city in the region. The army has stated its goal is to defeat Hamas and recover hostages who were taken during the group’s attack on October 7, 2023.
On Saturday, the military conducted a strike that destroyed a high-rise building in Gaza City, marking the second such operation within two days. Additionally, the army distributed thousands of flyers in western neighborhoods urging residents to evacuate, as reported by witnesses and an AFP journalist.
