Farhan Akhtar Aids Uttarakhand Flood Victims with Phone Donations
In a heartfelt gesture, actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has stepped up to assist those affected by the recent flash floods in Uttarakhand. Partnering with the Gurugram-based Bharat Disaster Relief Foundation (BDRF), Akhtar provided essential support by donating 50 multimedia mobile phones to families impacted by the disaster.
This charitable act comes as many people have been left homeless due to the devastating floods caused by a cloudburst earlier this month. Divyanshu Upadhyay, who works with BDRF and has collaborated with Akhtar on various initiatives, reached out to him for help. Recognizing the urgent need for communication, Akhtar promptly arranged for the phones to be sent to the areas of Harsil and Dharali, where many families have been displaced.
The BDRF has been actively working on the ground, distributing food, blankets, and mattresses to those in need. When Upadhyay contacted Akhtar on August 10, the actor quickly responded, sending the phones, each valued around Rs 7,000. This gesture allowed many individuals to reconnect with loved ones after being cut off for days, providing both emotional support and a sense of safety.
One volunteer involved in the distribution of the phones noted the relief expressed by families as they were able to communicate with their relatives. Many residents have been staying in community shelters and found it challenging to reach out, so being able to connect with their loved ones provided significant comfort during this tough time.
Reports indicate that the donation was more than just a practical contribution; it was a crucial step toward rebuilding hope and connection among those suffering in the aftermath of one of Uttarakhand’s most severe weather events in recent years. The phones helped survivors in Harsil and Dharali regain contact with their families, marking a vital move toward restoring a sense of normalcy.
Akhtar’s dedication to helping people in distress, often away from the public eye, continues to inspire and uplift communities in need.
