The US Open has announced an unprecedented prize money pool of $90 million for its upcoming 2025 tournament, setting a new record in tennis history. This figure marks a significant 20% increase from the previous year’s $75 million. Both the men’s and women’s singles champions will earn $5 million each, reflecting a 39% jump from the previous payout of $3.6 million.
The runners-up will receive $2.5 million, while semifinalists will take home $1.26 million, showcasing a notable increase from 2024.
The increase in prize money extends to all event categories. For the newly added mixed doubles event, the winning team will earn $1 million, a steep rise from the previous $200,000. Men’s and women’s doubles champions will also receive $1 million per team.
Prize money for the qualifying rounds will see a 10% rise, bringing the total to $8 million. The wheelchair events are also getting more financial support, contributing to the overall prize fund that approaches $90 million across singles, doubles, qualifying rounds, and wheelchair categories.
This prize money boost reflects ongoing efforts by players to advocate for a larger share of revenue. Notable athletes like Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner have been vocal about the need for improved compensation.
Additionally, the tournament will have an expanded 15-day schedule starting on August 24, coinciding with an $800 million renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium, highlighting the USTA’s commitment to progress and fairness in the sport.
