Varun Aaron: India Poised for Victory on Day 5 of the Oval Test

India Aiming for Victory in Oval Test

Former Indian pacer Varun Aaron believes that India has a strong chance of winning the fifth day of the Oval Test. As of August 4, India seemed to be in control after a successful first session on Day 4, taking the wickets of Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope. However, England made a dramatic comeback with Harry Brook and Joe Root stepping up to lead their batting effort.

Brook, who was dropped on 19, ended up scoring 111 runs. Meanwhile, Root celebrated his 39th Test century, putting England in a good position to secure their win and clinch the series. Nonetheless, India gained momentum towards the end of the day, managing to dismiss Jacob Bethell and Root quickly before play was halted due to bad light and rain.

On JioHotstar’s Match Centre Live, Aaron noted that the unexpected break could be beneficial for India. He emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and said that a draw would be a fair outcome for the Indian team.

“Even a short break can work wonders. It allows players to regroup, discuss strategy, and recover physically. I’m sure the message was clear: ‘We’ve worked too hard to let this game slip away.’ This team has traveled from India and performed commendably throughout the series. A loss from here would be disappointing, but after their strong showing in the bowling attack post-tea, I genuinely believe India has a good chance to win this match,” Aaron stated.

India Energized by Supporters

During the exciting conclusion of Day 4, the Indian crowd was lively, especially as Mohammed Siraj took the initiative to rally the fans. Aaron mentioned that the energy from the crowd played a crucial role in boosting the team’s spirits. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna made a significant impact, securing two important wickets after the tea break.

“The Indian supporters are out in full force, and their energy is definitely fueling the team. Siraj and Prasidh bowled with high intensity, and their efforts resulted in vital breakthroughs. Siraj has been incredibly unlucky, hitting the pads so often without getting the LBW calls. England now finds themselves in a tough spot, and this break will do wonders for India. The bowlers will have the chance to rest, stretch, and receive treatment, helping them return refreshed for the final push. This post-tea session has been exceptional, showcasing accurate bowling and smart captaincy from Shubman Gill,” Aaron added.

With both teams now in a tight spot, the match could go in any direction. England needs just 35 runs, while India requires four wickets to secure a win.
