Lucknow Hosts Course on Women in the Indian Diaspora

A five-day course titled “Indian Women Diaspora: Preserving Linguistic and Cultural Identities” kicked off at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) this Tuesday. The event featured Prof. Mohommed Gulrez, former Vice-Chancellor of AMU, as the chief guest.

Prominent guests included Prof. Purnima Mehta Bhatt from Hood College in the US and Prof. Nishi Pandey, a former professor at Lucknow University. They shared their insights on the crucial role of Indian women in maintaining language and culture within the diaspora.

Prof. Samina Khan, chairperson of the Department of English at AMU, highlighted the strength and resilience of Indian women living abroad. She emphasized that language plays an important role in allowing these women to express their unique identities in their new environments.

Meanwhile, Prof. Pandey remarked that women are often the keepers of tradition, language, and cultural heritage. The course is being coordinated by Dr. Sadaf Fareed from the Women’s College, AMU, showcasing a commitment to celebrating and preserving cultural identities among women in the diaspora.
