Aamir Khan Earns Respect with Humble Apology to Media Over Sitaare Zameen Par’s YouTube Launch; Stands Firm on Quick Digital Release: “Pay-per-view Won’t Harm Theatrical Sales”

Aamir Khan Announces YouTube Release for Sitaare Zameen Par

In a surprising announcement on July 29, Aamir Khan revealed that his hit film, Sitaare Zameen Par, will be available for rent on YouTube. This new release model will cost viewers Rs. 100. Discussions about this plan had been ongoing prior to the film’s release, but Aamir had previously denied such intentions to the media. In a heartfelt moment, he apologized for his earlier statements, acknowledging that he had not been truthful.

Aamir explained that his initial denial was aimed at protecting cinemas, as he expressed loyalty to theatrical experiences. He stated, “To the journalists who asked me about the YouTube release, I apologize for lying. I wanted to guard the theatrical business.” He emphasized that the cinema experience is uniquely different, with audiences sharing emotional moments together.

Despite launching the film online just six weeks after its theatrical release—something he had often opposed—Aamir clarified his reasoning. He differentiated between pay-per-view and subscription models, noting that while subscription platforms may feel more like free access to films, pay-per-view aligns more closely with the theatre experience. “In theatres, the experience is enhanced with sound and shared emotions,” he pointed out.

When questioned about his decision to skip the traditional eight-week wait for OTT releases, Aamir reiterated his belief that the pay-per-view format would not hinder theatrical earnings. He emphasized that while he respects OTT platforms, he prefers a model that maintains the integrity of cinema.

Overall, Aamir Khan’s announcement reflects a fresh approach to film distribution while valuing both theatrical and home-viewing experiences.
