England Adds Jamie Overton to Squad for Fifth Test Against India
England has welcomed Jamie Overton to their team for the upcoming fifth Test against India, starting on July 31. The team is eager to clinch the series in London after a frustrating match in Manchester, where India managed to hold them to a draw.
Overton, who has only played one Test match for England—back in 2022 against New Zealand—delivers promising contributions. In that match, he scored 97 runs and took two wickets, but has since not been seen in the Test lineup. Recently, he has focused on limited-overs cricket and garnered experience in T20 leagues worldwide, including the Indian Premier League. To date, he has participated in six One Day Internationals (ODIs) and twelve T20 Internationals (T20Is) for England.
The rest of the squad remains unchanged from the one used in the Manchester Test, with the addition of Overton. The England cricket board announced, “The England Men’s selection panel has added Surrey all-rounder Jamie Overton to the squad for the Rothesay Fifth Test match against India at Kia Oval, starting on Thursday, July 31.”
Additionally, Josh Tongue, who was previously released from the squad during the Manchester Test, has been kept in the lineup. Following the disappointing outcomes from their previous match, England is looking forward to turning things around at the Oval. In the last game, Liam Dawson struggled to make an impact, and the Indian team showed strong resolve to secure a draw.
