Cheetah Nabha Passes Away After Injury at Kuno National Park

An eight-year-old cheetah named Nabha, who was relocated to Kuno National Park (KNP) from Namibia, sadly passed away on Saturday due to injuries she sustained during a hunting attempt. According to officials, Nabha suffered severe fractures to her ulna and fibula on her left side, along with other injuries.

Uttam Sharma, the Cheetah Project Field Director, shared that Nabha had been receiving treatment for a week but ultimately did not survive. Further insights regarding her condition will be clarified following a postmortem.

With Nabha’s passing, KNP now houses a total of 26 cheetahs. This group includes nine adult cheetahs—six females and three males—and 17 cubs that were born in the park. Thankfully, all remaining cheetahs are reported to be healthy. Notably, two male cheetahs that were moved to Gandhisagar from KNP are also thriving.

Of the 26 cheetahs in KNP, 16 have adapted well to their natural environment and are successfully hunting alongside local wildlife. Sharma added that all cheetahs recently completed a round of anti-ecto-parasitic medication.

Additionally, two mother cheetahs, Veera and Nirva, along with their new cubs, are in good health, according to reports.
