Khachanov snatched the third set 6-1, putting pressure on Fritz. However, the American regained his rhythm in the fourth set and triumphed in a tight tiebreaker, finishing with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4). After the match, Fritz reflected on the abrupt shift in play, admitting he didn’t expect the game to change so quickly.
“I was really surprised at how the match turned. I felt in control, but then I started making mistakes. I knew I had to fight hard to regain control in the fourth set,” Fritz shared during his post-match interview.
With their contrasting journeys to the quarter-finals, Alcaraz and Fritz are now set to face off for a place in the final on Friday, July 11.
