Groq Expands AI Data Centre Network to Europe
On July 7th, Groq, a leader in AI inference technology, revealed plans to expand its global data centre network with the opening of its first European facility in Helsinki, Finland. This move aims to better serve the rising needs of customers in Europe.
Jonathan Ross, CEO and Founder of Groq, highlighted the significant demand for AI inference, stating that businesses require more capacity, efficiency, and scalable costs. He emphasized that the new data centre will provide users with minimal latency and immediate access to essential infrastructure, helping them innovate faster.
The Helsinki data centre, developed in partnership with Equinix, will enhance AI inference capabilities for European users, resulting in quicker response times and fortified data governance. This expansion strengthens the collaboration between Groq and Equinix, which already includes a well-established site in Dallas, Texas. Customers using Equinix Fabric will now have the option to deploy their workloads to GroqCloud, making AI resources more accessible and affordable.
Regina Donato Dahlström, Managing Director for the Nordics at Equinix, noted that Finland’s sustainable energy practices and robust power grid make it an ideal location for AI infrastructure. By combining Groq’s advanced technology with Equinix’s global network, businesses can efficiently leverage AI capabilities.
In today’s digital landscape, access to a variety of partners and service providers is crucial for AI deployment. Companies and governments in Europe are increasingly seeking to maintain control over their infrastructure while ensuring data privacy and mobility. With the new data centre, enterprises will have private access to GroqCloud, enhancing security while avoiding public internet routes.
This expansion comes alongside growth in other regions, with facilities in the U.S., Canada, and Saudi Arabia already processing over 20 million tokens per second. The surge in demand underscores the value of Groq’s custom silicon, built specifically for efficient real-time AI processing, providing a competitive edge for organizations around the globe.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in the world of AI technology.
