Georgia Tech Welcomes Commitment from 2026 Defensive Lineman Freddie Wilson

This holiday weekend, Georgia Tech made a splash by securing the commitment of a rising star from Florida. Freddie Wilson, a three-star defensive lineman from Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, announced on July 6 that he will be joining the Yellow Jackets, choosing Georgia Tech over offers from Miami and Minnesota.

Wilson marks the third commitment for the defensive line and is the first true interior lineman in the 2026 class, which is shaping up to be one of the more exciting groups under head coach Brent Key.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 265 pounds, Wilson adds size and strength to Georgia Tech’s front line. He is currently ranked as the No. 60 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 72 player in Florida, just shy of the national top 500, according to 247Sports.

However, stats can only say so much. In his impressive junior season, Wilson made 70 tackles, recorded six sacks, and had several tackles for loss after transferring to Spruce Creek from Mainland High School. His relentless playing style and ability to break through blocks make him a significant threat to opposing offenses. A notable performance came during the Florida playoffs, where he tallied 10 tackles in a tight 36-35 victory over Flagler Palm Coast.

“I believe I could be a game-changer,” Wilson shared with The Daytona Beach News-Journal, expressing confidence in Georgia Tech’s development program, led by defensive line coach Jess Simpson. “They are improving the facilities and stadium for the class of 2026, and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.”

Georgia Tech is not just enhancing their facilities; they are building a solid pipeline of talent. Wilson will team up with former Spruce Creek defensive lineman Derry “Chuck” Norris, a 2025 signee who started school early this year. Together, they aim to solidify a defensive front that wants to reclaim the tough, competitive spirit of past teams.

With Wilson’s commitment, Georgia Tech now has 20 overall pledges for the 2026 recruiting cycle, including eight on defense, alongside edge rushers Chris Carbin and Alex Willis.

The Yellow Jackets are poised to keep the momentum going, with plans to recruit at least one more defensive lineman to round out the class.

As Brent Key works to shape the future of Georgia Tech football, bringing in versatile talents like Freddie Wilson demonstrates a strong focus on dominating the trenches—where victories are often decided.
