PM Modi’s State Visit to Ghana Kicks Off Five-Nation Tour
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Modi has landed in Accra for a significant state visit to Ghana. In a warm welcome, he was greeted at the airport by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in 30 years, highlighting India’s aim to strengthen ties with Ghana and enhance its relationships across Africa and the Global South.
The Prime Minister is in Ghana as the starting point of his five-nation tour, which also includes Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Namibia, and Brazil, where he will participate in the BRICS summit.
Upon arrival, PM Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome, featuring a Guard of Honour and a 21-gun salute. Sharing his excitement on social media, he remarked on the warmth of the Indian community in Accra, expressing joy at the deep cultural connections present there.
In his departure statement, Modi emphasized India’s commitment to BRICS as a crucial forum for cooperation among emerging economies. He stated, “Together, we strive for a peaceful and balanced multipolar world.” He also plans to meet various world leaders during the BRICS summit.
Next, PM Modi will head to Brasilia for a bilateral visit, which is the first of its kind in nearly sixty years. He aims to enhance India’s partnership with Brazil and work alongside President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to advance the priorities of the Global South.
In Argentina, PM Modi intends to foster mutually beneficial cooperation in various sectors such as agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment. This visit will be notable as it is the first by an Indian PM to Argentina in 57 years.
Looking ahead to Namibia, Modi hopes to chart a new roadmap for collaboration that benefits the wider Global South. He expressed his anticipation for addressing the Joint Session of the Namibian Parliament, celebrating their shared commitment to freedom and development.
“I’m confident that this journey across the five nations will strengthen our bonds of friendship within the Global South,” added PM Modi.
