Sheikh Hasina’s Son Visits India Amid Political Tensions

New Delhi: Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed, the son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has arrived in India to visit his mother, who is living in self-imposed exile. Wazed, known by his nickname Joy, is currently based in the United States and made the trip to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha with Hasina, according to sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Hasina fled to India in August after her government faced intense protests from student groups, resulting in the collapse of her administration. Since her arrival, she has been staying in a secure location in the capital, New Delhi.

Details about Wazed’s visit remain limited, and there has been no official comment from Indian authorities. However, insiders noted that this is the first time Hasina has received a visitor since her move to India last year.

While there are no planned public appearances for Wazed during this visit, he aims to spend quality time with his mother during the festival.

On another note, tensions are high between the Indian government and Bangladesh’s interim administration, which is led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. The Bangladeshi government has recently requested the extradition of Hasina, who faces several criminal charges, including allegations of ordering a police crackdown on protestors. A hearing for these charges is scheduled for June 16.

The current situation reflects strained relations between the two countries, particularly concerning the treatment of religious minorities in Bangladesh.
