Aryna Sabalenka Plans a Fun Escape After French Open Heartbreak
World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka is looking to recharge after a tough loss in the finals of the 2025 French Open. To cope with the disappointment of not winning her first Roland Garros title, she’s set her sights on a getaway to Mykonos, where she plans to relax with some swimming, indulge in gummy bears, and enjoy a few drinks.
On Saturday, June 7, Sabalenka started strong against Coco Gauff in the women’s singles final, clinching the first set. But as the match progressed, Gauff made a remarkable comeback, ultimately winning 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 in a match that lasted almost two and a half hours on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Feeling crushed by the outcome, Sabalenka expressed her need for time to process the loss. “I’ve already booked a flight to Mykonos,” she told reporters. “I just need a couple of days to forget about everything that happened today.”
She added, “Tequila, gummy bears, and swimming—just being a tourist for a while.” Although deeply disappointed, Sabalenka tried to keep it light, acknowledging the challenging emotions of the moment.
A Bittersweet Finish for Sabalenka
This isn’t the first time Sabalenka faced Gauff in a final. Back in 2023, she lost to Gauff at the US Open. With a chance for redemption two years later, Sabalenka was unable to secure a win, making a staggering 70 unforced errors, which ultimately led to her defeat.
Meanwhile, Gauff made history by being the first woman to win her first two major titles after coming back from a set down, marking a remarkable achievement in her young career. She also found a way to bounce back from her earlier loss to Sabalenka in the Madrid Open final.
As Sabalenka embarks on her brief escape, she hopes to find some peace and clarity before returning to the sport she loves.
