Aamir Khan is gearing up to make a big statement with his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par. Recent reports suggest that instead of selling its digital rights to a streaming service, Aamir plans to release the film on YouTube. To watch it, viewers will need to pay a fee of ₹99. This news has sparked quite a bit of conversation, though some people on social media misunderstood it. They thought the film would skip theaters entirely and go straight to YouTube.
In a recent chat with reporters, Aamir clarified the situation. He emphasized, "There seems to be some confusion that I want to clear up. The film will only be released in theaters. I’ve seen the rumors, and they’re just not true. It will exclusively hit the cinemas."
Aamir also shared his thoughts about the future, saying, "After it releases, I honestly don’t know what will happen next. I’ve received many offers, but I’ve turned them all down. I truly believe in the power of cinema. My career is built on people watching my films in theaters, and that’s where my loyalty lies. Some might think it’s a foolish choice on my part, but I want to support the theatrical business which is struggling lately."
He continued, "These days, it’s tough for producers to start a film without selling its OTT rights first. But I’m choosing to release this film in theaters to strengthen that sector. I want to revitalise the cinema experience for audiences."
Aamir acknowledged that his films are released infrequently, which adds to his anxiety, especially in a landscape dominated by action films. He mentioned, “I know a lot of people expect me to make an action movie, but this particular story means a lot to me.”
At a recent fan meetup for Taare Zameen Par, Aamir recalled his experience with another film, Ghajini. He explained that even though it appeared to be a typical success, it faced challenges at the time. "Back then, the trend for action films had shifted, and my film was arriving in a changing market," he noted.
Sitaare Zameen Par is set to hit theaters on June 20, marking a significant release for Aamir and the film industry.
