Chinese Spokesperson Promotes Calm Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

In a recent press briefing, a spokesperson from China’s Ministry of National Defense, Zhang Xiaogang, chose not to comment on the performance of Chinese weapons after the recent conflict between India and Pakistan. When asked about the situation, Zhang emphasized the importance of both countries maintaining calm and restraint to prevent further escalation.

During the briefing, Zhang was specifically questioned about claims made by Indian military officials. They suggested that Pakistan’s military support from China included air defense and satellite systems, but that their performance did not meet expectations. Zhang’s response urged both nations to focus on peace rather than dwelling on military conflicts.

He added that China is committed to playing a positive role in maintaining stability in the region.

Regarding the PL-15E Missile

Zhang was also asked about reports of India recovering an unexploded PL-15E missile, which is a sophisticated Chinese-made weapon. He noted that this missile is an export product that has been showcased at various defense exhibitions, suggesting that its recovery should not raise concerns about reverse engineering.

The backdrop to this discussion includes a ceasefire agreement announced on May 10, following a series of military confrontations between India and Pakistan.

Concerns About U.S. Military Expansion in Space

Additionally, Zhang criticized the United States for its ongoing efforts in space militarization, particularly concerning the new Golden Dome missile defense system. He warned that such actions could escalate tensions and lead to an arms race in outer space, jeopardizing international security.

Zhang pointed out that the U.S. continues to expand its military capabilities in space and urged Washington to halt this trend for global stability.

In summary, while tensions remain high between India and Pakistan, China calls for calm and expresses its commitment to peace, while also cautioning against U.S. military pursuits in space.
