SunRisers Hyderabad Sets New Record with 278 Runs Against Kolkata Knight Riders

On May 25, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) made headlines by scoring a stunning 278 runs in their last match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This remarkable performance took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and marked the third-highest total ever recorded in IPL history.

Heinrich Klaasen shone brightly, smashing an impressive 104 runs off just 39 balls, demonstrating his prowess against both spin and pace bowlers from KKR. Klaasen achieved his century in a mere 37 balls, although he did ease off a bit during the final overs of the innings.

Despite this being a tough season for SRH, Klaasen’s explosive batting provided a glimpse of what could have been for last year’s finalists, as the team maintained an outstanding run rate.

Notable Highest Team Totals in IPL History

  1. 287/3 – SRH vs RCB, Bengaluru, 2024
  2. 286/6 – SRH vs RR, Hyderabad, 2025
  3. 278/3 – SRH vs KKR, Delhi, 2025
  4. 277/3 – SRH vs MI, Hyderabad, 2024
  5. 272/7 – KKR vs DC, Visakhapatnam, 2024

The innings kickstarted with a solid partnership between Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who put together 92 runs for the first wicket in just 6.5 overs. Following Abhishek’s dismissal, Klaasen took command, scoring a rapid 50 runs off only 17 balls.

Even when Travis Head fell in the 13th over, Klaasen kept the momentum going. He achieved one of the tournament’s fastest centuries, marking his second century in IPL history—the first being against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024.

Fastest Hundreds in IPL

  1. 30 Balls – Chris Gayle (RCB) vs PWI, Bengaluru, 2013
  2. 35 Balls – Vaibhav Suryavanshi (RR) vs GT, Jaipur, 2025
  3. 37 Balls – Heinrich Klaasen (SRH) vs KKR, Delhi, 2025
  4. 37 Balls – Yusuf Pathan (RR) vs MI, Mumbai BS, 2010
  5. 38 Balls – David Miller (KXIP) vs RCB, Mohali, 2013

After the game, Klaasen expressed his satisfaction with his performance but acknowledged the overall disappointment of the season for the team. He noted, “It’s been a long season of disappointment, but I stuck to my processes and found my form. The franchise is investing a lot to play this brand of cricket, and it was up to us to step up.”

Unfortunately for SRH, their loss in this match means they won’t be making it to the playoffs in the 2025 IPL season.

Stay tuned for more updates on IPL 2025, including match schedules, team lineups, live scores, and the latest points table details.
