Rajasthan Royals Overcome Chasing Woes with Victory Against CSK
Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson expressed his joy after his team broke their chasing slump with a six-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Royals successfully chased down a target of 188 runs in just 17.1 overs, thanks to a stellar performance from Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored 57 off 33 balls.
Samson also made a significant contribution with a score of 41 from 31 deliveries, forming a vital 98-run partnership for the second wicket alongside Suryavanshi. This marked Rajasthan’s second victory in ten matches while chasing this season. After the match, a relieved Samson noted that the team had been considering batting first, given their struggles in chasing previously.
“We decided to face our fears and conquer them,” Samson remarked after the game. “It feels great. We were initially thinking about setting a score. I wanted to take a different approach this time. The difference in team quality is minimal, and every match is tight. We need to reflect on our performance and learn from it for the next season, as we’ve made some mistakes.”
The RR captain also praised his young bowling attack, which managed to keep CSK’s scoring in check despite a strong start by the opposition. “Our young bowlers showed impressive temperament and planning, especially with the absence of Jofra and Sandeep. It’s encouraging to see their potential, and we’re proud of their hard work,” he added, highlighting the efforts of Akash Madhwal, who took 3 wickets for 29 runs and was named Player of the Match.
CSK seemed poised to set a high total, reaching 170/6 after 17 overs with Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni at the crease. However, the RR bowlers, especially Madhwal and Tushar Deshpande, managed to restrict them to just 17 runs in the final three overs. With this victory, Rajasthan Royals are looking forward to building on their success.
