On February 13, the Telangana government, led by its new Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, organized a visit for all ministers and legislators to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). This project, situated in the northern part of the state near the Maharashtra border, was previously championed by former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). Initiated in 2014 during KCR’s first term, KLIS was envisioned to solve the water scarcity issues in the state’s semi-arid areas. However, the project has ballooned into a massive expenditure of Rs 1.5 lakh crore, raising concerns that it may not fulfill the promises made by KCR. The purpose of the February 13 visit was for the government team to evaluate the progress and quality of the work done on this ambitious project so far.
