Mustafizur Rahman Heads to UAE for T20I Series
Fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has traveled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to compete in Bangladesh’s upcoming T20I series against the UAE. The matches are set to take place on May 17 and 19 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The official Bangladesh cricket Instagram account shared a photo of Mustafizur with his teammates, including Soumya Sarkar, Shoriful Islam, Towhid Hridoy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and new captain Litton Das.
This news comes at a time when there are questions about Mustafizur’s involvement in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. On May 14, he signed on with the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the remainder of the season after Jake Fraser McGurk withdrew for personal reasons. Mustafizur joined DC for ₹6 crore, marking his return to the team after previously playing in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated they were not aware of Mustafizur’s new contract with the Capitals. BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury mentioned, “Mustafizur is scheduled to travel with the team to the UAE. We haven’t received any notifications from IPL officials, nor from Mustafizur.”
If he competes in both matches in the UAE, Mustafizur will miss at least one of the three remaining matches for the Capitals. This includes a game against the Gujarat Titans on May 18 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The Delhi Capitals began the season strong with four consecutive victories but have stumbled lately, currently sitting fifth in the league table with 13 points and a net run rate of +0.362 from six wins in 11 matches.
