Archer Aviation Appoints Cristiano Tartaglione as COO for UAE Operations

On May 5th, Archer Aviation announced the appointment of retired Brigadier General Cristiano Tartaglione as Chief Operating Officer for its operations in the United Arab Emirates.

Based in Silicon Valley, Archer is an innovative aerospace company focused on designing all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Their flagship model, named Midnight, aims to transform travel by replacing lengthy car rides of 60 to 90 minutes with quick, 10 to 20-minute electric air taxi flights. These services promise to be safe, eco-friendly, quiet, and competitively priced compared to traditional ground transport. In the Emirates, Archer is collaborating with local partners and regulatory bodies to establish the region’s first commercial air taxi network.

In his new role, Tartaglione will oversee Archer’s operations in the UAE, focusing on building a local team, developing the necessary infrastructure, and ensuring adherence to UAE aviation regulations. He will closely cooperate with the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and other key partners to facilitate the safe launch of commercial electric air taxi services in the region.

Tartaglione comes with over 30 years of military experience, having served with the Italian Air Force. He has led multinational air operations, directed advanced jet maintenance programs, and has logged more than 3,500 flight hours as a fighter pilot. His previous role as Italy’s Defense Attaché to the UAE has also made him a respected figure in regional defense and aviation sectors. After retiring from the military, he has advised global aerospace and defense firms on strategies to enter the Middle Eastern and European markets.

"I am honored to join Archer Aviation at such a critical stage of growth as we prepare for commercial launch," Tartaglione stated. "My focus will be on operational readiness, regulatory compliance, and ensuring long-term value as we introduce safe and scalable air mobility services in the region."

This hiring underscores Archer’s commitment to providing innovative and sustainable urban air mobility solutions in the UAE. Recently, the company received design approval from the GCAA to convert the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal helipad into the nation’s first hybrid heliport, capable of accommodating both helicopters and eVTOL aircraft.

Dr. Talib Alhinai, General Manager of Archer Aviation UAE, expressed enthusiasm about Tartaglione’s appointment: "Cristiano joining the team is a significant advance for our mission in the UAE. His leadership and experience will be vital as we work to launch the region’s first commercial electric air taxi services, supporting the nation’s vision for sustainable transportation."

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development in air mobility!
