SRH Captain Pat Cummins Reflects on Team’s Strategy After Tough Loss
In a recent game against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced a heavy defeat, prompting captain Pat Cummins to rethink their playing style. Known for their aggressive cricket in 2024, SRH currently finds itself struggling, sitting at ninth place on the points table.
The match saw SRH’s batting lineup falter once again, with only Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar showing some resilience. Though Cummins has stood by their aggressive tactics in the past, he now believes it’s essential to have a steady approach during critical moments.
After the match, Cummins acknowledged that the team must find a balance when batting. “Abhinav and Klaasy did well to get us a decent score, but we needed someone to anchor the innings," he explained. "You can take your time to build your innings and still switch to attack later. Starting from a low score means we need to read the pitch better.”
Reflecting on the season’s ups and downs, Cummins noted the highs of their opening game where they scored 286 runs, compared to their recent struggles. He admitted that the aggressive strategy has not been yielding results and emphasized the importance of adapting to each pitch moving forward.
“We need to look at every pitch as unique,” he said. “What worked in one match may not work in another. Our job now is to figure out a good target based on the conditions. Discussions will focus on this in our upcoming games.”
As SRH gears up for the next matches, the team aims to improve their strategy and performance on the field.
