LSG vs DC: Rishabh Pant Shares Confusing Take on Team’s Shift in Post-Match Chat

Lucknow Super Giants Face Another Defeat Against Delhi Capitals

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) suffered their second defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) this season, falling short by 8 wickets. After a tough loss in Vizag earlier, LSG couldn’t turn things around on home turf.

Captain Rishabh Pant faced criticism for his batting position, coming in at No. 7 during a crucial phase of the match. Speaking in a post-match interview, Pant attempted to clarify his decision but seemed to leave fans puzzled.

The controversy began when Pant opted to bat at 7, the lowest he has batted this season. Players like Abdul Samad and David Miller took the crease ahead of him, and even Ayush Badoni, who came in as an Impact Player, batted before Pant in a bid to stabilize the innings after a mini-collapse during the middle overs.

Pant explained his strategy, saying, "The idea was to capitalise on the conditions. We sent Samad to utilize the wicket since it was gripping a bit early on. Then Miller came in, but we couldn’t get going." His remarks seemed to raise further questions rather than offer clarity.

In his brief time at the crease, Pant faced just two balls, resulting in another duck—his second against DC this season, following a six-ball failure earlier in the competition.

Reflecting on the game, Pant acknowledged LSG fell short by about 20 runs, noting that the toss plays a significant role in matches played in Lucknow. "The wicket often gets better for batting as the game progresses. We need to stay in the game longer," he said.

On the topic of Badoni’s utilization as an Impact Player, commentators expressed confusion. Pant clarified that Badoni’s role was to allow for the inclusion of pacer Mayank Yadav. However, this raised eyebrows since LSG batted first, and it seemed more logical for Badoni to be part of the starting line-up.

"We’re trying to give Mayank some game time early in the season since he came from NCA. We’re just looking for the best way to fit him in," Pant explained.

Following this loss, LSG finds themselves in 5th place in the league standings, accumulating 10 points from 9 matches.
