Public Health Alert: Metal Contamination in Pork Carnitas Sold at Aldi Stores

A recent health alert from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) warns that pork carnitas sold at Aldi stores across the country may be contaminated with small pieces of metal.

The affected pork carnitas were fully cooked and produced between April 1 and April 2. They bear the establishment number "Est. 46049" alongside the USDA inspection mark. These products come in 16-ounce trays labeled “Pork Carnitas SEASONED & SEARED PORK WITH JUICES SLOW COOKED WITH CITRUS, READY TO SHRED.” Consumers should check the use-by dates, which are marked as 06/30/2025 or 07/01/2025.

Even though the product is no longer available for sale, the FSIS is concerned that some consumers may still have it stored in their refrigerators or freezers. Officials advise anyone who may have purchased the item to dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.

The alert explains that the issue was found when the meat processing establishment notified the FSIS that damage to their equipment could have led to the contamination. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries associated with the consumption of these products.

As a precaution, consumers are reminded to be vigilant and discard any potentially affected items.
