Avesh Khan has expressed his determination to improve himself on the cricket field, especially after leading Lucknow Super Giants to an incredible victory against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Saturday. Taking inspiration from Mitchell Starc’s impressive performance against RR, where he successfully defended 9 runs to secure a win for Delhi Capitals, Avesh similarly excelled by bowling tightly in the final overs, helping LSG win by just 2 runs.
In a pivotal moment, Avesh dismissed the set batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag in a crucial over, swinging the match in LSG’s favor. However, in the final over, he faced a mishap when he got struck on the hand, requiring him to use an ice pack afterward. Reflecting on the incident, Avesh humorously noted that he thought he might have broken his hand from the impact and even saw “stars” for a moment.
Fortunately, Avesh reassured fans that his hand was fine, explaining, “It felt like it was broken because I was hit on the bone. I didn’t get a chance to celebrate after that.”
Looking ahead, Avesh emphasized his focus on clear thinking and executing his bowling plans effectively. He prefers not to look at the score during matches, choosing instead to trust his skills. His primary goal was to avoid giving away boundaries in the early deliveries of the final over.
“I don’t want to be like Mitchell Starc; I want to be a good version of Avesh Khan. I aim to bowl with clarity and carry out my plans. My focus was to prevent boundaries in those first three balls to create pressure on the batsmen,” Avesh stated.
Additionally, Avesh commented on a missed catch by David Miller during the last over, noting that he had hoped Miller would make the catch. He mentioned that he is working on understanding his bowling patterns, which is crucial in making strategic decisions during the game.
“When the ball went in the air but was mistimed, I thought David would take the catch. It’s easier to save runs on this ground, as a mistimed shot can easily turn into boundaries,” Avesh said. He also explained that the team was discussing field placements to best support his bowling, which is all part of honing his approach on the field.
As Avesh continues to refine his game, he remains focused on being the best cricketer he can be.
