Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pulled off an impressive victory against Punjab Kings (PBKS), winning by 8 wickets in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2025 on Saturday, April 12, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After PBKS chose to bat first, they set a formidable target of 245 runs, thanks to a stellar performance by their captain, Shreyas Iyer, who scored 82 runs off just 36 balls.
In response, SRH chased down the target in just 18.3 overs, marking it as one of the highest successful chases in IPL history. Abhishek Sharma was the star of the show, smashing an exhilarating 141 runs off 55 balls, which included 14 fours and 10 sixes. His opening partner, Travis Head, also made a significant contribution with a quick 66 runs off 37 balls.
The match commenced with SRH’s opening pair hitting the ground running, putting pressure on PBKS’s bowlers from the start. Head struck a couple of boundaries in the first over, while Abhishek showcased his intent by unleashing four boundaries off Marco Jansen in the second over.
The duo, dubbed ‘Travishek,’ quickly added 50 runs in just 21 balls. A brief slip-up occurred when PBKS bowler Yash Thakur overstepped, giving Abhishek a second chance that he seized with gusto, sending the subsequent delivery soaring over the boundary. This moment marked the beginning of an unforgettable innings for Abhishek, who reached his half-century in just 19 deliveries.
While Abhishek was dominating the innings, Head played a supportive role, finding the boundary on occasion and maintaining a strike rate above 150. In an attempt to break the momentum, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer turned to Yuzvendra Chahal to control the flow of runs. Unfortunately for PBKS, while Chahal was nearly successful in taking a catch, it slipped away, allowing Abhishek’s innings to continue.
As the SRH innings progressed, it felt like a highlight reel with Abhishek consistently sending the ball to the boundary. The pair reached the halfway point in just 9 overs, with Head also bringing up his half-century off 31 balls.
Their partnership was finally broken in the 13th over when Chahal dismissed Head for 66 runs. However, Abhishek continued to shine, reaching his first IPL century off just 40 balls and dedicated his achievement to the SRH fans with a special celebration.
His explosive innings eventually came to an end as he scored 141 runs, flicking the ball to deep square leg, earning a thunderous applause from the crowd as he left the field.
Earlier in the day, PBKS had started strong, with Priyansh Arya scoring 36 off 13 balls and Prabhsimran Singh contributing 42 off 33. Their partnership of 66 runs for the first wicket was broken by Harshal Patel, which brought captain Shreyas Iyer to the crease, marking a promising start for both teams in this thrilling match.
