PV Sindhu Advances in Badminton Asia Championships

India’s badminton star, PV Sindhu, made a strong start in the Badminton Asia Championships, easily defeating Indonesia’s Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo in the first round on April 9. Sindhu won the match with scores of 21-15 and 21-19, wrapping it up in just 44 minutes.

This victory was a boost for the Indian team, especially after both HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen exited the tournament earlier in the day. Ranked 17th in women’s singles, Sindhu took control early, although Wardoyo managed to level the score at 9-9 during the first set. However, Sindhu pulled ahead at the break and maintained her lead.

As the match progressed, Sindhu built a four-point margin, but Wardoyo began to close the gap. Nevertheless, Sindhu secured the first set by winning four consecutive points. The second set proved to be more challenging, with Sindhu trailing behind Wardoyo initially.

Despite falling behind, Sindhu regained her focus and edged ahead at the break. In a nail-biting finish, both players reached 19-19, but Sindhu managed to withstand the pressure and clinched the match, setting up a showdown with Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the next round.
