Rishabh Pant Reflects on Recovery Journey with Advice from Ashish Nehra
Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant shared insights into a difficult time in his life, emphasizing the crucial advice he received from Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra. Pant opened up about his struggles following a serious car accident he experienced in December 2022.
The accident occurred late on December 30 on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, leaving Pant in a dangerous situation with his car catching fire. Thankfully, he survived but required extensive surgeries and months of rehabilitation to regain his strength and mobility.
During a recent press conference in Kolkata, Pant spoke about how Nehra, a mentor from his cricket days at Sonnet Cricket Club in Delhi, provided him with much-needed guidance during his recovery. "Ashish Nehra told me to keep myself happy, no matter how tough things were," Pant recalled. "He shared his own experiences with injuries and encouraged me to focus on the things that bring joy."
This advice resonated deeply with Pant and helped him navigate through the tough times. He expressed gratitude for Nehra’s support, stating, “That piece of advice really stayed with me and played a big role in my recovery."
In less than two years, Pant made a remarkable comeback, participating in the 2024 Indian Premier League. His performance was strong enough to secure him a place in the T20 World Cup held in the USA and the Caribbean.
Reflecting on his recovery, Pant revealed how even routine activities became monumental challenges. "I had played cricket every day since childhood, but suddenly I found myself unable to move. Simple things, like brushing my teeth, were incredibly hard, especially in the first month," he admitted.
However, Pant found his way to recovery by accepting the situation and understanding that healing takes time. "I learned that I couldn’t rush my recovery. Once I accepted that fact, it helped calm my mind and made me realize there was no benefit to being negative," he explained. "Everyone has their own process to heal. For me, it involved finding joy in small things."
Since returning to cricket, Pant has made significant contributions to the Indian team, winning both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy. Although he played a key role in the World Cup, he was on the sidelines during the Champions Trophy, where the team opted for KL Rahul instead.
As Pant continues to move forward in his career, he remains an inspiring figure, demonstrating resilience and determination through his challenges.
