Fatima Sana Shaikh is bringing attention to an important issue within the film industry—casting couch practices. In a recent social media clip from a past conversation, the actress, known for her role in Dangal, opened up about her experiences in the South Indian film world. She described how some filmmakers and producers take advantage of aspiring actors, misleading them under the promise of roles.

Fatima recounted an encounter where she submitted her profile for a casting call. Afterward, a casting director kept asking if she would be willing to "do anything" for the part. Initially, she responded with enthusiasm about working hard for the role. However, the director continued to press the same question, which increasingly frustrated her. In the end, she played along until he grew annoyed and dropped the conversation.

She highlighted the tough realities that many newcomers, especially women, face in the industry. Fatima explained that many smaller producers would hint that opportunities would only arise if one is willing to “meet” them in certain ways. While they didn’t speak about the casting couch explicitly, their vague suggestions made the uncomfortable nature of the situation clear.

Furthermore, Fatima emphasized that these issues are not confined to the South Indian film industry; they are present in Bollywood and modeling as well. She noted that while not everyone behaves in such a way, many have heard similar experiences from other actors and actresses. She remarked on the unfortunate truth that exploitation often happens wherever there is power.

As her statements continue to resonate, Fatima’s bravery in discussing these issues sheds light on a persistent problem of exploitation that many face in the film industry.
