Mumbai Indians’ New Talent Shines in IPL 2025 Debut
In an exciting moment for the Mumbai Indians, their new player Satyanarayana Raju made his IPL debut during the game against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, located in Ahmedabad. The 25-year-old fast bowler from Andhra Pradesh grabbed attention when he bowled one of the slowest deliveries in IPL history.
During the 13th over of the Titans’ innings, Raju surprised Jos Buttler with a back-of-the-hand slower ball. As the slower delivery zipped through, fans noticed that the speed gun did not register its speed, making it feel like it took forever. Buttler capitalized on this extra time and hit it for a boundary, showcasing his quick reflexes despite the bowler’s tactics.
Social media quickly lit up with fans pointing out that Raju’s delivery reminded them of slower balls bowled by the legendary Dwayne Bravo from the West Indies, who was known for his crafty variations.
In the match against Chennai Super Kings, which took place on March 23, Raju delivered just one over, conceding 13 runs. Despite the challenges, he kept his position on the team, a testament to the management’s trust. After the Chennai match, he was also seen getting a word of encouragement from Mumbai’s captain Rohit Sharma, bonding over strategies just before the game started.
Later in the match against Gujarat, Raju returned to bowl in the death overs. Although he initially struggled, he managed to finish strongly, taking the wicket of Rashid Khan after allowing a six. He wrapped up his spell bowling three overs for 40 runs and ended with a wicket to his name.
Earlier, the team had to make a tough decision, dropping leg spinner Vignesh Puthur, who had a standout performance during his IPL debut by taking three wickets. Puthur was sidelined due to injury for this match.
The journey of Satyanarayana Raju in this season proves to be one full of potential as he adjusts to the competitive environment of the IPL, having made a substantial impact in his first outings.
