Guam Partners with Japanese Universities to Boost Tourism and Business Education

Guam has recently wrapped up two innovative programs in collaboration with prestigious Japanese universities, providing students with valuable experience in tourism and business.
The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) has announced the success of these international programs, which were organized by Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University (GSGU) and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (KUFS). Partnering with the University of Guam and local industry experts, these initiatives offered visiting students the chance to engage in hands-on learning, seminars, and cultural exchanges.
The International Tourism & Business Program, hosted by GSGU, ran from February 24 to March 1, 2025, welcoming fifteen students. Based at the University of Guam, the program included an English Learning Class conducted by the English Guam Club, a seminar on tourism marketing led by GVB focusing on destination strategies, and insights on working abroad provided by LamLam Tours. Ernst & Young also contributed with career development advice, while students explored Guam’s academic and business landscape. This program is set to continue annually, enhancing students’ understanding of global tourism and business.
Meanwhile, the Global Tourism & Hospitality Program, which took place from February 16 to March 9, 2025, was led by Professor Daisuke Ebina from KUFS and involved fifteen students. The curriculum featured a seminar on sustainable tourism and destination branding by GVB, an internship program at Hilton offering practical hotel management experience, and an exciting English Adventure Program by the University of Guam. Students concluded the program by presenting their ideas for addressing tourism challenges in Guam, including developing social media strategies with influencers and promoting local cuisine. This program has been running for six years alongside KUFS, furthering Guam’s engagement with international students.
Both Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University and Kyoto University of Foreign Studies are dedicated to delivering hands-on, globally-focused education, equipping students to make meaningful contributions to the fields of travel and business.
