Dhoni’s Spirit Unfading as IPL 2025 Approaches
Robin Uthappa has shared his thoughts on the undying passion of MS Dhoni for cricket, hinting that fans can expect to see some remarkable performances from him in the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni, who is now 43 years old, is gearing up for his 18th season in this lucrative league. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will kick off the season against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 23 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Uthappa, who has played alongside Dhoni in CSK, mentioned that Dhoni is anticipated to bat in the lower order, specifically at positions 7 or 8, just like last year. Uthappa believes we might witness Dhoni displaying his impressive batting skills during the final overs of the match. He remarked that even in his 40s, Dhoni possesses some of the fastest hands in wicketkeeping.
He stated, “I believe we will catch glimpses of his brilliance. I think he’ll bat around 12 to 20 balls throughout the season, similar to last year.”
Dhoni’s Passion for Cricket Remains Strong
Before the big auction last year in Jeddah, CSK decided to keep Dhoni on as an uncapped player for a retained price of Rs 4 crore. This move was made under a rule that permitted teams to retain players who had not played international cricket in the last five years.
Uthappa emphasized, “I don’t think MS’s passion for cricket will ever fade. His love for the game is still very much alive. At 43, he still has the fastest hands as a wicketkeeper.”
He continued, “With such skills and a strong desire to keep playing, nothing should hold him back. It wouldn’t surprise me if he retires at the end of this season, but equally, he could continue playing for several more seasons.”
Since the IPL’s launch in 2008, Dhoni has played in 264 matches, scoring 5,243 runs with an impressive average of 39.12 and a strike rate of 137.53, including 24 half-centuries.
As the IPL 2025 season approaches, excitement is building around what Dhoni will bring to the field, and fans are eager to see their hero in action once again.
