Increased Security at Aurangzeb’s Tomb Due to Tensions

Chhatrapati Sambhaajinagar, Maharashtra: The police have heightened security measures at the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in Khultabad after some right-wing groups threatened to demolish it. These tensions have also been fueled by comments from local politicians.

Access to the tomb has been limited for the past few days, and police have announced that these restrictions will continue until further notice. The police clarified that while there are no restrictions on vehicles, some barricades have been set up to help monitor traffic heading towards the site, which is located roughly 30 kilometers from the city.

"One platoon of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) has been stationed for continuous surveillance, and six officers are permanently stationed at the tomb," said Dhananjay Pharate, the police inspector from Khultabad.

Meanwhile, political responses have been stirring from various factions of the Shiv Sena party. Ambadas Danve, a leader from the Shiv Sena (UBT) and opposition head in the state legislative council, criticized the Mahayuti government for allegedly instigating conflict over the tomb. He mentioned that while the central government provides funds for its upkeep, officials appear to be provoking discussions about its destruction.

In contrast, cabinet minister Sanjay Shirsat from Shiv Sena challenged opposition members to erect statues of Aurangzeb if they believe removing his tomb undermines history. He maintained that there is no place for this monument in Maharashtra.

Kalyan Kale, a Congress MP from Jalna, argued that the controversy surrounding the tomb has been amplified due to upcoming local elections in the state. "The tomb has been part of our landscape for years, and now people are only talking about it because elections are nearing," Kale stated.
