India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, sent a strong message to critics of both him and Virat Kohli following their victory in the Champions Trophy on March 9. The Indian team emerged triumphant against New Zealand, winning by four wickets, which marked their third Champions Trophy title and the second ICC event victory in a row after the T20 World Cup in 2024.
In the decisive match held in Dubai, Rohit played a pivotal role, scoring a stylish 76 runs, while Kohli contributed significantly throughout the tournament with a total of 218 runs, including a century against Pakistan. There had been swirling rumors about Rohit’s potential retirement from one-day internationals (ODIs) after the tournament, but he addressed these concerns directly.
A popular video surfaced on social media showing Rohit casually discussing these issues with Kohli right after their on-field celebrations. The clip clearly indicates that the celebrated duo has no intentions of hanging up their boots anytime soon.
Rohit and Kohli’s Words After the Win
During a press conference, Rohit dismissed any talk of retirement, stating, “Koi future plan ni hai. Jo chal ra hai wo chalega” (There’s no future plan, things will keep going as they are). He reassured fans that he is not stepping away from the ODI format and wants to quash any rumors that might arise.
Kohli shared his perspective on the future as well, hinting at his desire to ensure that the Indian team is in a strong position by the time he chooses to retire. “I try to speak to these guys as much as possible, share my experience about my longevity. When you want to leave, you want to leave the game in a better position. That’s what we are striving for,” he explained.
With this win, Rohit and Kohli have also become India’s most successful players in men’s ICC events, surpassing the record previously held by MS Dhoni. Their continued presence in the team promises more exciting cricket ahead for fans.
