Tragic Shooting of RTI Activist and Reporter in Sitapur
Lucknow: In a shocking incident that took place in Sitapur on Saturday, a 36-year-old RTI activist and reporter, Raghvendra Bajpai, was shot dead in broad daylight. According to police reports, the assailants, who were on a motorcycle, forcibly collided with Bajpai’s bike, causing him to lose control and fall. As he lay on the ground, they fired three shots at him before escaping the scene.
Emergency services rushed Bajpai to the hospital, but doctors pronounced him dead soon after arrival. He suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder, with one bullet recovered from his clothing. The shooting occurred near the Hempur railway crossing along the Lucknow-Delhi national highway at around 3 PM.
Before leaving home on his motorcycle, Bajpai reportedly received a phone call. Family members revealed that he had received death threats ten days earlier connected to some reports he had published, although authorities have not confirmed whether he reported these threats to the police.
When the family learned about the tragic news, they hurried to the hospital, heartbroken. Bajpai is survived by his wife and two young children, ages eight and ten. This incident has raised concerns over the safety of journalists and activists in the region.
