The recent match between India and Pakistan in the Champions Trophy 2025 has broken television viewership records, highlighting the intense nature of this famous cricket rivalry. Held on February 23 in Dubai, the match attracted an astonishing 20.6 crore viewers, making it the second-most watched cricket game in the history of the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), right after World Cup matches.
This latest face-off surpassed the viewership of their previous 50-over encounter during the Cricket World Cup 2023. According to JioHotstar, the official broadcasters of the event, the Champions Trophy match had about 11 percent higher television ratings compared to the match in Ahmedabad.
Virat Kohli shone brightly during the contest, becoming the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He played a pivotal role as India chased down a target of 242 runs in just 42.3 overs, scoring his 51st ODI century in the process. India ultimately triumphed over Pakistan by six wickets, further strengthening their lead in this ongoing rivalry.
As India gears up to play New Zealand in the final of the Champions Trophy on March 9, Pakistan’s team has exited the tournament without securing a single win, despite hosting the event.
A spokesperson from JioStar praised the growing interest in cricket’s marquee events, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing fan experiences and engaging new audiences.
The upcoming final on March 9 marks a significant moment, as it has been 25 years since India and New Zealand last faced each other in an ICC final. Back in 2000, New Zealand clinched their only major ICC title by defeating an Indian team led by Sourav Ganguly.
Having previously beaten New Zealand in the group stage, India will look to build on that success as they prepare for this much-anticipated final.
