Two men from Kerala, India, who were convicted of murder in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have been executed. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed the identities of the men as Muhammed Rinash A, from Kannur, and Muraleedharan P V.
Rinash was found guilty in a case involving the murder of a UAE national and had been employed at a travel agency in Al Ain before his arrest. Muraleedharan received a death sentence for the murder of another Indian immigrant. The UAE authorities informed the Indian embassy about the executions on February 28, prompting the embassy to reach out to the families of the convicted men. The MEA stated that the embassy had offered as much support as possible in terms of consular and legal assistance.
In a statement, the MEA mentioned that the Indian embassy had submitted requests for mercy and pardons, but the highest court in the UAE upheld the death sentences. The embassy is currently making arrangements for the families to attend the last rites for both men.
Additionally, it was noted that a woman from Uttar Pradesh had been executed in Abu Dhabi on February 15 for the murder of an infant.
