Chinese authorities have taken action against a number of trademark applications that were filed with the name “DeepSeek.” This response comes as the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) startup, which has gained global attention, faces attempts from various individuals and companies looking to capitalize on its success, some of which may be occurring in Hong Kong.
On Tuesday, China’s National Intellectual Property Administration announced that it has rejected 63 trademark applications featuring the name DeepSeek. The agency stated that these applicants showed a clear intent to take advantage of the buzz surrounding the startup’s AI technologies for their own benefit.
Despite being in the spotlight, DeepSeek prefers to keep a low profile. The company has recently reaffirmed its commitment to open-source technology by releasing more of its research and projects to the public, earning praise from the developer community.
In the bustling Mong Kok district of Hong Kong, at least two companies have registered under the name DeepSeek, highlighting the ongoing interest in the brand and its technologies.
