Theatrical Adaptation of DDLJ to Premier in the UK

In an exciting announcement for theatre lovers, actors Jena Pandya and Ashley Day are set to star as Simran and Rog (Roger) in the upcoming stage musical titled Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical. This production is based on the iconic Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), which has had an unparalleled run in Indian cinema since its release in 1995.

Directed by Aditya Chopra, the musical will make its debut at the Manchester Opera House on May 29, 2025, and will run until June 21, 2025.

Jena Pandya, known for her performances in Bhangra Nation and Mamma Mia, expressed her excitement about the role: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be playing Simran. It’s incredible to be part of a story that resonates deeply with so many. The original film has become an integral part of India’s culture, and I can’t wait to bring this beloved story to life on stage in Manchester.”

Ashley Day, who has appeared in An American in Paris and the series Dynasty, also shared his enthusiasm: “This musical is a heartfelt romantic comedy. The script is filled with humor and emotion, showcasing two cultures that remain true to their heritage while embracing something larger. The music combines elements of musical theatre and Punjabi pop, creating something truly unique. At its core, the show emphasizes family, love, and the importance of standing up for what matters most—timeless themes that feel especially significant today.”

Jena Pandya has recently taken the lead in Bhangra Nation at Birmingham Rep and has previously garnered acclaim for her role in Mamma Mia. Ashley Day, a versatile performer, has led numerous productions across the UK and the USA, and is recognized for his role as Colin McNaughton in Netflix’s Dynasty.

The stage adaptation of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge promises to fuse cultures with the addition of 18 new English songs created just for this production.

The creative team for Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical includes notable names: the Book and Lyrics are crafted by Nell Benjamin, celebrated for her work on Mean Girls and Legally Blonde. Music comes from the popular Indian duo Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani. The choreography is led by Tony and Olivier Award winner Rob Ashford, with co-choreography by Indian dance expert Shruti Merchant. The scenic design is by two-time Tony Award winner Derek McLane, ensuring a visually captivating experience.

This adaptation of DDLJ is sure to capture the hearts of audiences, blending beloved elements from the film with exciting new interpretations.
