Erdogan Critiques US Missteps in the Middle East

ANKARA: Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has criticized the approach of former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Middle East, suggesting that it is based on “misguided calculations.” Erdogan asserted that following “Zionist lies” would only lead to more conflict in the region.

Turkey has firmly opposed Trump’s proposal, which suggested expelling over 2 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and placing it under U.S. control to develop it as the “Riviera of the Middle East.” Erdogan’s administration has accused Israel of committing acts that amount to genocide against the people of Gaza, urging for global action against the Israeli government.

“Sadly, the United States is misjudging the dynamics of our region. It is essential to consider the historical and cultural context,” Erdogan stated during a press conference held on his return from visits to Malaysia, Indonesia, and Pakistan.

Furthermore, Erdogan expressed hope that Trump would fulfill his promises of working towards peace rather than escalating tensions. He also noted the lack of genuine progress towards a ceasefire in Gaza, despite a recent truce between Israel and Hamas. The Turkish leader remarked that the Muslim world has yet to unite effectively on this critical issue.
