No CCTV Footage of Controversial Remarks at India’s Comedy Roast Show
Recent developments surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial comments during a roast show have stirred significant discussion across the country. The Mumbai Police disclosed that there is no CCTV footage available from the event, as the cameras were covered with a black cloth prior to filming.
The police team visited The Habitat cafe in Khar West, the venue for the show, to gather information related to the incident. The Habitat, known for hosting various comedy acts, is owned by Balraj Singh Ghai, a friend of comedian Samay Raina, who hosted the episode in question.
According to sources, it is a common practice for venues like this to cover CCTV cameras during recordings to prevent early leaks of content planned for platforms like YouTube. As a result, the cafe does not possess any footage of the remarks made during the show.
Following the controversy, the offending video has been removed from YouTube after a notice from the government. The Mumbai Police are investigating Allahbadia’s comments under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nagrarik Suraksha Sanhita, which requires them to gather evidence within 14 days if a case is warranted. Meanwhile, Assam Police have already initiated a case against Allahbadia and several others involved.
Allahbadia, known online as the "BeerBiceps Guy," recently gained attention for a particular clip from the show where he made an inappropriate remark that prompted outrage. In response to the backlash, he released a public apology, stating, "Comedy is not my strong suit, and I had a lapse in judgment. My comment wasn’t just inappropriate; it wasn’t funny at all."
He expressed regret over the situation and emphasized that he did not intend to misuse his platform, acknowledging that he made a mistake and was not looking to excuse his actions.
