Last month, Mamta Kulkarni made headlines by participating in the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where she was honored with the title of Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada. This recognition came after her deep spiritual journey. However, not everyone in the community welcomed the decision, leading to significant controversy.
On Monday, Mamta took to social media to discuss her spiritual path in more detail. In a heartfelt video, she announced, “I, Mahamandaleshwar Yamai Mamta Nandgiri, am resigning from this post. The respect given to me was for my 25 years of penance, but some people have a problem with me being Mahamandaleshwar.”
Reflecting on her long absence from the film industry, she shared, “I left Bollywood 25 years ago and disappeared on my own. Who stays so far away from makeup and glamour otherwise?” She spoke fondly of her guru, Shri Chaitanya Gagangiri Maharaj, a revered spiritual figure, emphasizing that her spiritual experiences were profound enough to negate the need to seek enlightenment in far-off places.
Mamta further explained her decision to step down from the esteemed position, aiming to reduce any tensions surrounding her appointment. She revealed that financial constraints had affected her, saying, “When I was asked for Rs 2 lakhs, I didn’t have it. Jai Ambagiri Mahamandaleshwar gave it from his pocket. The money I have comes from deep penance, not material pursuits.”
Concluding her message, she gracefully returned the honor, stating, “This post was a certificate for sharing knowledge, but perhaps it’s a sign that I should step away. I am returning it with gratitude. Namaste.”
Mamta’s journey and her decisions reflect the ongoing balance between her past in Bollywood and her current spiritual aspirations.
