India Reaffirms Support for Palestine Amid Ongoing Conflict
NEW DELHI: In light of recent remarks from US President Donald Trump regarding the relocation of over two million Palestinians to neighboring Arab nations, India has reiterated that its stance on the Palestine issue remains unchanged.
During a statement on Friday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri responded to the developments, saying, "Our position on the Gaza Strip and the Palestine issue is well-known. It has been consistent and has not altered."
The ongoing conflict in West Asia is expected to be a significant topic when President Trump meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi next week. While several representatives from Arab countries have condemned Trump’s proposal as illegal, it has found support from Israel, which is reportedly making preparations to address the plan.
India’s policy towards Palestine has consistently advocated for a negotiated two-state solution. This vision includes the establishment of a sovereign and viable State of Palestine, existing peacefully alongside Israel with secure and recognized borders.
India has condemned the Hamas attacks on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023, and has expressed sorrow over the civilian casualties resulting from the subsequent Israel-Hamas conflict. Furthermore, India continues to provide humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, both directly and through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
