Trump Proposes Detaining Undocumented Migrants at Guantanamo Bay

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he intends to detain undocumented migrants at Guantanamo Bay, the military prison known for holding terrorism suspects since the September 11 attacks.

This surprising decision came as Trump signed a new bill that allows for the pre-trial detention of undocumented individuals who are charged with serious offenses like theft and violent crime. The legislation is named after an American student who was killed by a Venezuelan immigrant.

At a White House ceremony, Trump revealed he would issue an executive order directing the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare the facility in Guantanamo Bay, which has a capacity for 30,000 individuals. He stated, “We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to detain the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people. Some of them are so dangerous that we don’t trust their home countries to keep them, because we don’t want them coming back.”

The President emphasized that this step would significantly increase the country’s ability to hold undocumented migrants, as part of a broader effort to crack down on illegal immigration during his second term. He referred to Guantanamo as a "tough place to get out of" and asserted that these new measures would help combat migrant-related crime in American communities once and for all.
