Manchester United Legend Denis Law Passes Away at 84
Denis Law, a celebrated figure in the world of football and a former player for Manchester United, has passed away at the age of 84. The Premier League club announced the sad news on January 18. Law started his football journey with Huddersfield Town but truly shone during his long career at Manchester United, where he played for 11 years.
During his time at United, Law helped the team secure two league titles in 1965 and 1967, along with the prestigious European Cup in 1968. He is remembered as one of the club’s greatest goal-scorers, netting 237 goals in 404 matches, making him the third-highest scorer in the club’s history, behind legends Wayne Rooney and Sir Bobby Charlton. Law formed a legendary striking trio with Charlton and George Best, known affectionately by fans as the ‘holy trinity.’
In 1964, Law made history as the only Scottish player to win the Ballon d’Or and the European Player of the Year awards, highlighting his immense talent and influence in the sport.
Following his passing, Law’s family shared heartfelt words through Manchester United, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that we tell you our father Denis Law has sadly passed away. He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace." They expressed gratitude to everyone who supported Law throughout his life, noting the love and care he received from fans and friends.
Manchester United also released a statement mourning the loss of one of their greatest players. The club honored Law, calling him "the King of the Stretford End," and recognized his flair, spirit, and passion for the game which made him a hero for many fans. In recent years, Law revealed that he was facing health challenges, including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia, which added to the depth of affection and support he received from the football community.
