Carlos Alcaraz had a challenging day on the court during an exhibition match at Melbourne Park ahead of the Australian Open 2025. On Wednesday, the talented Spaniard faced off against Alex de Minaur but lost with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 5-10. Despite the defeat, Alcaraz remained upbeat, offering his best wishes to De Minaur who recently got engaged.
Last month, De Minaur announced his engagement to Katie Boulter, the World No. 24 from England. Boulter shared a sweet post on Instagram, showcasing her engagement ring and revealing, “We’ve been keeping a small secret.” Alcaraz couldn’t help but joke while congratulating his fellow player.
“I already told him congrats. I’m not sure if he’s really sure about it. I’ve seen them at tournaments, and though I don’t know Katie well, she seems like a lovely person. I think he’ll enjoy married life, and I wish them the best,” Alcaraz remarked.
During the post-match conversation, Alcaraz was also asked about his own relationship status. An interviewer inquired, “Carlos, you’re not engaged, you’re still single?”
In a light-hearted moment, De Minaur chimed in, jokingly announcing, “He’s available guys!”
Responding to the cheers from the audience, Alcaraz clarified, “No, no, no. I’m not engaged, I’m still single. I’ve joked with my friends, especially since a few tennis players got engaged recently. I thought maybe it would be my turn, but not yet.”
Alcaraz, who has already won four Grand Slam titles, is still seeking his first victory at Melbourne Park. In his last appearance, he reached the quarter-finals but was defeated by Germany’s Alexander Zverev, with a score of 6-1, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 at the Rod Laver Arena.
