Weather Update: Severe Disruptions in Delhi

Flight and train services in Delhi faced significant disruptions on Saturday due to heavy fog. Visibility dropped to nearly zero in multiple regions of north India, leading to slow-moving traffic and difficulties for commuters.

At the Indira Gandhi International Airport, IndiGo announced a pause on all departures and arrivals because of the poor weather. They communicated through social media that operations were currently on hold as of 1:05 AM. Travelers were advised that delays might still occur even after operations resumed, due to congestion in air traffic.

Air India also warned about the impact of the dense fog, indicating that it was affecting flights in Delhi and other northern areas.

In further developments, 19 flights were diverted from Delhi’s airport between 12:15 AM and 1:30 AM due to the adverse conditions. Fortunately, normal operations resumed shortly after that.

The cold wave in northern India was felt strongly in Prayagraj, where devotees were seen bundled up for the Mahakumbh rituals, gathering around bonfires to stay warm.

Tragically, poor visibility also led to a fatal road accident in Haryana’s Uklana area, claiming the lives of four individuals.

Travelers at Delhi’s railway station were also affected, with several trains running late because of the fog, alongside a report of 30 flights either delayed or canceled at Guwahati Airport.

Srinagar’s famous Dal Lake has been reported frozen as temperatures dipped to -2 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that heavy snowfall is likely in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days.

As the situation evolves, commuters and travelers are urged to stay informed and check for real-time updates from their respective airlines and railway services.
