Sydney Report on Jasprit Bumrah’s Injury During Crucial Test
In an unsettling turn of events, Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah, who recently took on the role of captain, had to undergo medical scans due to back spasms. This incident occurred on the second day of the fifth and final test match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Bumrah, stepping in for a rested Rohit Sharma, was seen leaving the stadium in a car about an hour after lunch on Saturday, according to television coverage. As of now, there has been no official word from the Indian team regarding his ability to bowl or bat in the remaining sessions of the match.
Teammate Prasidh Krishna gave an update, stating, “He has a back spasm. He went for scans, and the medical team is keeping a close watch on him. We’ll have to wait and see."
The 31-year-old bowler initially showed no signs of injury during the first session as he secured a wicket, dismissing Marnus Labuschagne, in addition to taking the wicket of Usman Khawaja in the final over of the previous day. However, after bowling just one over post-lunch on Saturday, he had to leave the game with figures reading 2-33.
In Bumrah’s absence, seasoned player Virat Kohli took charge of the Indian team. Bumrah, despite his injury, returned to the SCG grounds later in the day to support his team as they began their second innings. By stumps, India had managed a score of 141-6, establishing a lead of 145 runs as they headed into Day 3 of the test.
Throughout this series, Bumrah has made a remarkable impact, achieving a total of 32 wickets—the highest tally for an Indian bowler in a single series held in Australia. This feat surpasses the previous record set by spinner Bishan Singh Bedi, who had 31 wickets during the 1977-78 series.
As the match progresses, fans and players alike are hopeful for a swift recovery for their captain.
